A note about the upcoming

greener EP

Greener is a collection of songs written around the time of my dad’s death. Songwriting through the grief was how I processed the intensity and beauty of those moments. These songs also offered a way for me to document sacred experiences: the unexpected visit of an owl, the wise words my dad shared the day he died, and the wonder around what happens on the “other side.” I recorded each song as they came, in my living room and garage, opening up to the emotions as they were happening, from sadness to love to deep loss and gratitude. A few of the songs called for strings, and having grown up in a classical music household, it felt fitting and meaningful for me to add the different parts of a quartet, playing my dad’s cello and late mom’s violin and viola. My hope in sharing these songs is they might offer comfort, connection, and helpful tears for you as they have for me.

about tracy

A Los Angeles native, Spuehler (rhymes with Bueller) was born into a classical music family, and started playing violin at age 3. She took that training in a different direction at 18 in the Midwest, where she joined the post-punk folk band Pimentos for Gus. 8 years, 4 albums, and many tours later, Tracy moved back to Los Angeles from Minneapolis when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. With the big life events of moving, leaving a long-term relationship, and ultimately her mother’s death, Tracy turned to songwriting on guitar, and the songs started pouring out.

After the song “Where Do We Go?” landed in a national Nissan ad campaign, Tracy branched out into writing custom music for commercials as well as the top-rated French series Profilage. Tracy’s music has become a fixture on both network and streaming television, with placements over the years on ABC, NBC, MTV, VH1, Showtime, and USA in shows like The Office and Switched at Birth,

and most recently having cowritten a song for the upcoming film Spa Weekend. Her work has enjoyed international success in the U.K., Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, and beyond, including a collection of “Sunshine Pop” and whistle-based production music albums recorded for a British label. Throughout her career, Tracy’s songs have also received an abundance of radio support, landing on KCRW’s Top 50 and earning her a Best Singer-Songwriter nomination.

“Imagine a messy, chaotic world filled with junkyards and media billboards, all shouting noise, hype, and clutter…” writes Derek Sivers, Founder of CD Baby, “Now imagine in the middle of this mess is a little oasis, a little perfect circle with a single simple beam of light shining down on a girl singing a simple melody. That’s Tracy.”
